Volvo Car Group teams up with Waymo for level 4 self-driving

Volvo Car Group, including its affiliates Polestar and Lynk & Co, are establishing a strategic partnership with Waymo, a world leader in fully self-driving technology development.

Waymo is the exclusive Level 4 self-driving tech partner for Volvo Car Group. The companies will first work together with the intention to integrate Waymo’s fully self-driving technology – the Waymo Driver – into an all-new mobility-focused electric vehicle platform for ride-hailing services.

According to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Level 4 autonomy means a high level of automation and the lack of the need for human supervision. However, a human still has the option to manually override - the vehicle still has a steering wheel and pedals.
