Toyota adds Android Auto to vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to add Android Auto to its vehicles, reports Automotive News.

Earlier this year, Toyota already announced it was adding Apple's CarPlay, a move indicating the carmaker is ending years of resistance to both systems because of safety and security concerns.

Previously, both platforms could only be accessed in Toyota vehicles through SmartDeviceLink, a telematics system developed by Ford that controls how Android Auto and CarPlay look on the dash and limits their access to car data.

Automotive News reports an official announcement could come as early as October.
