World’s best-selling EV is… Chinese

No, it’s not the Nissan Leaf (anymore), and neither does Tesla wear the sales crown in EV-land. According to recent Jato figures, the China-built BAIC EC180 can call itself the world’s best-selling electric car. This city car has a 20 kWh battery, yielding 156 km of range, and costs about €20,000.

BAIC only sells the EC180 on the local market, where EV sales are booming. Between January and September 2017, nearly 38,000 units found a Chinese owner. The Nissan Leaf sold 35,400 times, the Tesla Model S 33,200. Remarkably, half of the models in the global top 10 are Chinese.
