No more red lights with Jaguar

Jaguar F-Pace with GLOSA technology

Jaguar Land Rover announced that it is developing a new Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2X) technology that will help drivers to avoid red lights by informing them of the optimal speed to be driven at in order to avoid getting stuck at the traffic lights.

Named “Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory” (GLOSA), the system allows cars to “talk” to traffic lights and inform the driver about the ideal speed approaching junctions or signals. The benefits of the system are to be found in the reduction of traffic congestion as well as emissions from harsh braking or accelerating in order to avoid driving through a red light.

As part of a £20 million research project funded by the British government, Jaguar is testing the GLOSA-technology on board an F-Pace, alongside a host of other measures to slash the time commuters spend in traffic and reduce the risk of accidents. Other technologies that are put through the test are aimed at avoiding collisions at junctions (Intersection Collision Warning or ICW) or helping drivers to find a free parking spot by providing real-time information of available spaces.
