Ericsson and Microsoft create connected vehicles solution

Technology giants Microsoft and Ericsson have teamed up to accelerate the development of connected car services, including fleet management, telematics and prediction services, advanced navigation, in-vehicle infotainment, autonomous driving, and over-the-air updates.

Ericsson will build its Connected Vehicle Cloud, which currently connects more than 4 million vehicles in 180 countries globally, on top of the Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform, which runs on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The two companies aim to offer OEMs an immediate, scalable, connected solution for the lifecycle management of vehicles, combining cloud infrastructure, edge technology as well as artificial intelligence and Internet of Things services.

Åsa Tamsons, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Technologies & New Businesses, Ericsson, said: “Our integrated solutions will help automotive manufacturers accelerate their global connected vehicle solutions and offer a better experience for drivers and passengers.”
