BMW adds AdBlue to diesels, particulate filters to petrol engines

In view of the Euro 6c emission standards, all diesel models of the BMW 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series and X1 get an AdBlue injection system to reduce the amount of NOx they produce. AdBlue is the trade name of diesel exhaust fluid, an aqueous urea solution that chemically reduces NO2 and NO molecules to harmless N2 molecules in the car's exhaust system - a process called selective catalytic reduction (SCR).

As from March 2018, the brand will also expand the number of petrol engines that are equipped with a particulate filter. Today, only the 2 Series and the X3 powered by the 20i and 30i powertrains feature this exhaust gas purification system. In two months' time, the 4 Series, the X1 and the i8 will follow.
