LeasePlan goes full-electric by 2021

LeasePlan will become a founding partner of EV100, a global transport initiative to speed up the uptake of electric vehicles in corporate fleets. The leasing multinational will transition its own employee fleet completely to electric cars – the first major leasing company to make the switch.

EV100, launched by The Climate Group in New York on Tuesday, is the only initiative of its kind and scope. Its members commit to transition their fossil-fuel fleets to EV fleets by 2030 and encourage other businesses to do the same. LeasePlan is one of the ten founding companies, the others include Unilever, Baidu, IKEA, HP, Vattenfall, PG&E and Deutsche Post DHL. LeasePlan is the only automotive company among the founders.

“Over half the cars on the road today belong to companies, so together, we can have a significant impact on the switch to electric mobility”, says LeasePlan CEO Tex Gunning (pictured). “We're also very proud to go electric ourselves, our ambition is to have all our employees driving electric cars by 2021. We encourage other companies to do the same: making the transition to an electric fleet is one of the easiest ways for businesses to lower their emissions and to help tackle climate change”.
