Latin NCAP key in fleet management

side impact crash test, Latin NCAP

Balancing safety with other factors is key in selecting your fleet vehicles and one tool to use in Latin America is regional car safety assessment program Latin NCAP.

For instance, the subcompact Ford Ka is the third most sold car in Brazil owing to its appealing design and fuel efficiency.  However, it received a considerably low mark for the side impact protection test announced by Latin NCAP in late October.

Although it received three out of five stars for child occupant protection, it received zero stars for adult occupant protection, a rating that would fail to pass the United Nations mandatory basic side impact protection regulation (UN95).

The result of the Ka, according to Latin NCAP, is also valid for the Ford Figo and Aspire which are sold in Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Founded in 2010, Latin NCAP is one of the latest additions to the NCAP family. The original NCAP (new car assessment program) was established in 1978 in Washington DC.
