Chmel is Global Category Manager at SGS

Ondrej Chmel has been appointed as Global Category Manager for procurement at SGS, the Geneva-based multinational specialising in inspection, verification, testing and certification services. The appointment is effective from the beginning of October.

Mr. Chmel (pictured: inset) is stationed in the Netherlands (pictured: SGS HQ near Rotterdam), as he was in his previous job as Sourcing and Procurement Manager for Indirect Spend and Services (EMEA) at KONE, where he spent 13 years in various sourcing-related roles. In 2007, he obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Economics in Prague.

The appointment of Mr. Chmel is the latest in a carrousel of new positions for fleet professionals.

In June, KONE promoted Niko Väisänen to Global Sourcing Category Manager for its car fleet. From 2015, he had held executive roles managing national and regional fleets for the company.

Also in June, Ben Vary left SGS, where he had been responsible for global Fleet & Travel management (overseeing 13,600 vehicles) for the past decade, for a new role as associate director for global fleet category management at Otis, the elevator specialist (overseeing 22,000 vehicles).
