GlaxoSmithKline’s fleet to become fully electric by 2030

Global healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) will have its North America fleet fully electric by 2030 through a collaboration between ARI and Enel X, it has announced this week. 

ARI, a global fleet management provider, specialising in complex car and truck fleets, will launch a pilot project with the energy services arm of Enel Group, Enel X, to fulfil GSK’s commitment to the EV100 initiative.

Launched in 2017 by the Climate Group, the EV100 initiative aims to completely electrify the fleets of its members by 2030, representing more than 5 million vehicles. 

ARI and Enel X will help GSK establish a holistic sustainability solution, based on the deployment of PHEVs and BEVs and building more than 100 charging stations. Qmerit, providing services to companies to transform their fuel-powered systems to electric technologies, will support the installation process. 

Based on analysis of historical and real-time fleet data, ARI and GSK have prepared a thorough transition plan, including:

• Prioritising the vehicles that will be replaced and driver training, 
• Aligning charging applications provided by Enel X with the order and delivery process of new EVs, 
• Using JuiceBox smart charging stations and JuiceNetFleet IoT software for effective EV fleet management, 
• Optimising power usage on the power grid through JuiceBox smart EV charging stations. 

The holistic sustainability approach aims to reduce GSK’s fleet operation costs through the life-cycle of electric vehicles. 

Towards net zero-emissions by 2030

Providing charging infrastructure to more than 10,000 companies at 35,000 locations worldwide, Enel X is ambitious to expand its commitment to providing clean and convenient charging solutions through the new collaboration with ARI. 

Helping GSK’s fleet to transform into fully electric with effective charging infrastructure, ARI and Enel X desire to meet the goals of the Climate Group by reducing the CO2 emissions of the transportation sector. 

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the transportation sector has the biggest share in emitting greenhouse gas (GHG), almost 29% in the US. 

The EV100 initiative plays an essential part in transitioning the fleets to fully electric in North America, representing 20% of the total registered vehicles.
