Google launches Last Mile Fleet Solution
Tech giant Google has launched a product designed specifically to help fleet managers optimise delivery operations.
Last Mile Fleet Solution integrates mapping, routing, and analytics by combining the Google Maps Platform with Google Cloud’s route planning Cloud Fleet Routing API.
This integration provides accurate address capture; route optimisation configured around fleet constraints, such as delivery time windows and real-time traffic conditions; driver routing and navigation; shipment tracking so customers can follow the progress of their deliveries; and feet performance.
Reduce distance and fleet size
Google says the combination of Google Maps data with Cloud Feet Routing can help fleets to reduce distances travelled and the number of delivery vans required, and even reduce the CO2 emissions from computing.
Hans Thalbauer, Managing Director, Global Supply Chain & Logistics Industries, Google Cloud, said: “The pandemic further accelerated both e-commerce and the number of deliveries, which were already growing rapidly. The increased strain on delivery networks, plus many other factors like driver shortages, poor address data, factory closures, and an increase in fuel prices have impacted delivery time and success. We’re making it easier for delivery fleet operators to address these issues and create seamless experiences for consumers, drivers, and fleet managers.”
One early adopter is German drinks delivery company flaschenpost, which makes 150,000 deliveries per day within a guaranteed two-hour window.
