Waze Connected Cities coming to Mexico City

The mobility management center of Mexico City's government has signed an agreement with GPS navigation platform Waze to create public policies aimed at improving urban mobiliy in the Mexican capital (population of some 9 million).

 

Falling under the company's Connected Citizens program, the Google subsidiary will be working with the city's public safety department which controls traffic lighting operations, its mobility department Semovi which manages mobility works, and local traffic control agencies.

 

The program involves acquiring data from the two departments and compiling information aimed at creating more time efficient routes for commuters as well as providing better safety considering the high incidents of vehicle theft in the city.

 

Mexico City's program follows a similar Waze project previously carried out in the city of Boston which reduced traffic congestion by up to 30%.
