SIXT launches car subscription serve 'as simple to use as music streaming'

International car rental specialist SIXT has launched a car subscription service in the United States that it claims is as simple to use as iTunes or Spotify.

Called SIXT+, the new service gives customers instant access to a wide choice of vehicle, from compact cars to SUVs, for a monthly fee. The cost depends on the vehicle, mileage allowance and protection package, and includes all routine service and maintenance charges. No deposit is required and monthly fees start at $459 for a compact sedan such as the Kia Rio and rise to $549 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee and $999 for a Cadillac CT6.

Customers can book a car via the SIXT website (an app is in development) and collect it the following day.

The no-strings service, which SIXT says is as easy to use as music streaming, lets customers return their cars on a monthly basis without penalty, providing flexibility without the commitment required by purchase or lease schemes. If a customer decides subsequently to buy a car through SIXT Car Sales, the company will deduct a month’s SIXT+ fee from the acquisition price.

SIXT+ is available at 30 SIXT branches across the United States, and continues the company’s strategic expansion in the US following the acquisition of 10 airport concessions in July, including at all three New York airports.

Sebastian Birkel, president of SIXT United States, said the company was determined to seize the opportunities presented by the COVID-19 crisis and: “provide more and more Americans with unlimited mobility.”
