Kia EV6 rolls out in India

Kia India entered the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the launch of EV6, built on the electric-global modular platform (E-GMP).

Kia EV6 will be offered in two trims, priced at Rs 59.95 lakh (€72.031,96) and Rs 64.95 lakh (€77.979,99). EV6 will be limited to 100 units for 2022, while the EV has received 355 pre-orders in India. Kia India is not targeting mass volume sales with its first EV model in the country, instead sees it as the first step toward future ambitions.

Kia, which has announced an investment of $22.22 bn (€20.71 bn) to develop business operations for the next five years, will focus on building the EV infrastructure in India as a part of the investment.

Kia India aims to expand its presence in the Indian EV market by introducing various models in the coming years. The plan includes releasing an India centric EV model by 2025. This approach aims to benefit from the diverse customer base in the country.

Kia EV6 will be sold in 12 cities through 15 dealerships, which will be equipped with 150 kW fast chargers. Kia EV6 has a 77.4 kWh battery and offers a range of up to 528 km with a single charge. Kia EV6 charges from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes with a 350kW DC, while it takes 73 minutes for the same amount with a 50kW DC.

Kia EV6 drivers will receive a 22kW AC wall box charger, with assistance to install it in any place of their choosing.

Kia becomes greener

Kia wants to be one of the leading EV producers, planning to release 14 all-electric models by 2027. The automakers want to sell 1.2 million battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030.

The ambitious plan targets making 25% of all of its sales electric by the end of 2025.
