GM focuses on larger EVs as Bolt heads for exit

General Motors (GM) is focusing on larger electric vehicles (EV) under its Ultium platform as it announces the exit of the Chevrolet Bolt EV, the automaker’s compact hatchback which has been produced at its Detroit plant since 2016.

Besides BrightDrop commercial vans, the Ultium platform is used by the GMC Hummer EV (pickup and SUV versions), and Cadillac Lyriq, as well as the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado, Blazer, and Equinox EV models launching by year-end 2023.

At a starting price of $26,500, GM still plans to produce more than 70,000 Bolt models in 2023 (its final year). Thereafter, its factory will be used to produce the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra trucks, said CEO Mary Bara during the company's 1Q23 conference call.
