Kia, Awto team up to expand carsharing in Brazil

Kia Motors Brazil has delivered 40 units of its Stonic compact hatch mild hybrid to carsharing company Awto in the city of Sao Paulo.

The carsharing company, which rents out cars, motorcycles, and scooters, is planning to expand its Stonic fleet to other Brazilian cities.  As part of the partnership, Kia will be offering Awto carsharing services at some of its dealerships.

The Stonic, which is a small crossover type vehicle with SUV elements, runs on a 1-liter turbo engine putting out 118hp and 17.1kgfm. It has a 48-volt electrical system that supports vehicle operations, bringing power to 120hp and 20.4 kgfm.

It has an average fuel consumption of 13.7 km/l in the city and 13.8 km/l on the open road, according to data from Brazilian standardization autarchy Inmetro. 

At just under R$150,000 reais (US$28,500), the Stonic is one of the lowest priced hybrids in Brazil.
