Global Fleet kicks off Wikifleet Puerto Rico

Global Fleet has kicked off the Wikifleet page of Puerto Rico, an island located between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, just east of the Dominican Republic.

Our new Wikifleet entry is unique to our list in Latin America. As it is an unincorporated United States territory, it is neigher a sovereign nation nor a U.S. state.

Population clusters tend to be found along the coast, of which the largest is found in and around the capital city of San Juan. While its population is approximately 418,000, its urban area tops 2 million.

There is also a large number of people in the interior of the island immediately south of the capital around the city of Caguas. Puerto Rico has some 1,100 people per square mile, making its population density among the world's highest.

It is also considered one of the regions of the world with the most cars per square mile, being 4,300. Japanese brands are quite popular on the island. Among those most sold are Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan and Kia, but also FCA. Among the best-selling models are Toyota RAV4 SUV, Yaris compact sedan and Tacoma pickup, as well as Hyundai Tucson SUV and Accent compact sedan.

Considering an estimate of one vehicle per 1.5 people, the territory has a national fleet of some 2.13 million vehicles. Although acquiring cars directly from the island is done, it is quite common to ship cars from a U.S. state (e.g. Florida).

In 4Q19, Puerto Rico’s interest rate and inflation were 1.5% and 0.4% respectively. Its 2019 GDP is expected to be just over US$102 billion (US$31,975 per capita). Visit the Wikifleet page here
