Argentina auto industry shows signs of improvement

In July, 21,646 vehicles were produced in Argentina, down 47.8% year-over-year but only down 9.5% compared to June, according to local auto manufacturers association ADEFA.

Meanwhile, 19,913 units were exported in July, down 21.5% year-over-year but up 14.4% compared to June. Finally, a total of 39,255 wholesale units were sold in June, down 15.8% year-over-year but up 7.5% compared to June.

After months of being in the red, some light at the end of the tunnel does look to be emerging for Argentina’s automobile industry. Besides exports, “this [uptick] is being influenced by customer bonus plans and a 19.6% increase in national vehicle sales,” says ADEFA president Luis Fernando Peláez.

Year-To Date

From January-July, production was down 35.6% year-over-year to 182,828 units, exports were down 13.2% to 127,599 units, and a total of 226,322 wholsale units were sold nationwide, down 51.7% compared to the same period last year.
