Automakers vying for pole position in Brazil

As automakers continue to battle to be the best-seller in Brazil, among the models surpassing some of the top sellers as of February are Renault Kwid, Nissan Kicks, and Jeep Compass.

While the popular compact hatch Renault Sandero was ranked No. 4 last year, it has been bumped out of the top 10 and much of it is due to the Kwid which was ranked No. 5 in February. The segment is led by the Chevrolet Onix which has been No. 1 for at least two years.

Also affected by the arrival of the Kwid is the Fiat Mobi. Once a top 10 car, it was ranked No. 14 last month.

Meanwhile, the once popular compact SUV Ford Ecosport which was ranked third at the start of 2017, is now No. 5.  Much of it has to do with the arrival of the Hyundai Creta (ranked No. 1 in 2017) as well as the growing popularity of the Kicks.

The Creta, however, has lost last year’s position, falling to No. 4 just behind Kicks, the Honda HR-V, and  the Jeep Compass at No. 1
