Ford, VW readies strategic alliance in Argentina

Ford and Volkswagen continues talks of their strategic alliance in Argentina to reduce manufacturing costs and strengthen their competitiveness in South America.

According to the companies, it is neither a merger nor an acquisition or anything similar to the partnership the two had in the 1980’s known as Autolatina.

Instead, the companies are holding meetings to see what types of synergies they could create in terms of building their vehicles, with the main idea of sharing platforms for pickups, SUVs, and vans. So far, the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok remain the two up for consideration.

The two companies already have facilities located next to each other in the city of General Pacheco, some 10km northwest of Buenos Aires.
