Panama vehicle sales down 13%

A total of 25,422 vehicles were sold in Panama during the first semester of 2018, representing a 13% drop from the same period last year.

Although still down, SUV and pickup sales were not impacted as much, according to business news portal Central America Data. SUV sales fell 9% to 8,851 units and pickups sales slid 7% to 3,875 units. Heavy duty vehicle sales, however, dropped 15% to 835 units.

The overall performance for the semester was slightly worse than last year when 1H17 vehicle sales showed a 12% drop year-over-year. Among Panama’s best-selling car brands are Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia.
