Mercedes Benz, ChargePoint deploy ultra-fast charging network in US

The HPC North America fast charging network of Mercedes-Benz is taking shape in the United States as the German automaker recently announced partnership deals with local EV charging provider ChargePoint (NYSE: CHPT) and travel center stores Buc-ee’s.

As for ChargePoint, the first large-scale deployment of its new Express Plus Power Link 2000 DC fast charging platform has been deployed. Capable of delivering charging speeds up to 500kW, the Power Link system runs the Mercedes-Benz network, now the fastest public charging network in North America, according to a ChargePoint release.

Express Plus is a modular DC fast charging platform which can house up to five Power Modules to reach a desired charging specification. Featuring liquid-cooled cables with hardware designed and tested to deliver a reliable charging experience, these stations can simultaneously charge two vehicles at one time, at sustained high speeds of up to 500kW.

“With the deployment of Express Plus Power Link 2000, ChargePoint is setting a new standard by offering sustained, ultra-high-speed charging for all EV drivers,” ChargePoint COO Rick Wilmer (pictured left) said in the release.

“We congratulate Mercedes-Benz on the launch of their HPC NA network, and we look forward to boosting the availability of fast, reliable public DC charging on North American roads,” he added.

Meanwhile, Buc-ee’s has launched a network of premium EV charging stations across North America in partnership with Mercedes-Benz HPC NA, a project which entails Mercedes-Benz building charging hubs at the majority of Buc-ee’s travel centers, starting with 31 by the end of 2024, the OEM said in a release.

While Buc-ee’s already has travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, it is breaking ground with new centers coming up in Missouri, Mississippi, and Colorado.

“Mercedes-Benz HPC North America's collaboration with Buc-ee's represents an important moment in our pursuit of a national charging network that sets a new standard in both convenience and quality. Within a remarkably short period, we've made significant strides towards opening several charging hubs at Buc-ee's travel centers,” said Mercedes-Benz HPC NA President and CEO Andrew Cornelia(pictured right).

Buc-ee’s strategic locations along major travel routes, combined with their commitment to clean and accessible amenities, aligns perfectly with our vision. Together, we’re not only providing exceptional value but also redefining the EV charging experience for drivers nationwide, added Mr. Cornelia.
