General Motors CEO announces ambition EV production, delivery plan

General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra has announced a plan to deliver 400,000 electric vehicles (EV) by the end of 2023, part of an ambitious program which calls for the release of 20 EVs in the United States through 2025 and an additional 10 for global markets.

To supplement GMs Factory Zero plant in Detroit which is manufacturing the GMC Hummer EV, the nearby Orion assembly plant which makes the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV will be upgraded to build electric versions of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Ms. Barra has also announced the construction of a third EV truck factory during her announcement to investors.

Although GM only sold some 25,000 EVs last year, it plans to launch several electric models in the next few years are in the works. They include the Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer, GMC Sierra and BrightDrop vans, Cadillac Lyriq and Celistiq, and likely Buick models.
