BMW launches all-electric iX3 with 460 km range

The X3 is the first model from BMW to be available with a petrol or diesel engine, a plug-in hybrid drive system and now also with an all-electric drive system, which carries the iX3 badge.

BMW says major progress made in terms of power density, operating range, weight, installation space requirement and flexibility. Power density of the electric drive system increased by 30% over the BMW Group’s existing fully electric vehicles. The fifth-generation BMW eDrive high-voltage battery with the latest battery cell technology and gross energy content of 80kWh enables an operating range of up to 460 kilometres (WLTP). The new eDrive electric motor produces a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm.

BMW Charging Card provides simple and convenient access to currently more than 450,000 public charging points worldwide, whereas new Flexible Fast Charger (allowing use of different socket types) and high-output Wallboxes are now available as options. The battery can charge at a rate of up to 150 kW at DC fast-charging stations, reducing charging times from 10 to 80% to just 34 minutes. A mere 10-minute charge adds 100 kilometres of range.

Then new BMW iX3 will be built at the Shenyang manufacturing facility in China and exported towards Europe. Expect the car to arrive on the Old Continent by year’s end.
