Asia to benefit under NAFTA changes

If the US has its way with the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), automobile production and sales are bound to increase in Asia, automobile fleet expert Rodrigo Monroy told Global Fleet.

“In general, Mexico and other Latin American countries have a good relationship with Asian automakers, mainly those from Japan and South Korea (China for some countries),” said Monroy who is the regional fleet manager for Chicago-based bio-pharmaceutical company Abbvie, representing both Latin America and Asia.

The Asian brands are already set up with key manufacturing plants in Latin America so the impact of NAFTA should not be a lot, said the executive who manages some 1,400 vehicles.
