BMW to take first place from MB in 2020

There is no honour in coming second. Or: the winner takes it all. That is why BMW CEO Harald Krüger is pulling out all the stops to reclaim the throne from arch rival Mercedes-Benz. “In 2020 we will be number one again, even if it will not be a walk,” he told German reporters earlier this week. The Bavarians sold 2.09 million units in 2017, the Swabians 2.29 million.

Key in the brand's strategy is the launch of new carlines, such as the X2 and X7, and the renewal of important existing models, such as the X4, the 1 Series and the 3 Series. Moreover, it stands to reason that the fierce competition between the German premium brands promises to unchain increased discounts - a game the other luxury brands are forced to engage in if they want to preserve or even increase their market share.
