Brazil new car sales up 25%

Brazil's vehicle sales in September jumped 24.9% year-on-year to 194,580 units.

Despite the automobile industry starting 2017 with production and sales down, the market looks to have bottomed out, according to local car manufacturers association Anfavea. Besides 2017 GDP being up for the first time in approximately three years, inflation has been falling.

Expect a slow comeback, however, due to the lingering high unemployment.  Although the current rate of 12.6% is slightly better than earlier this year, overall consumer confidence is still low.

The top selling brands for the month were Chevrolet (led by the Onix), Fiat, and Volkswagen which were up 24.7%, 14.7%, and 97.3%, respectively.  One thing to point out is the 68.8% jump in seventh-placed Renault sales led by the Kwid which was launched earlier this year.

The September sales report was Brazil's best performance in three years, according to automotive research and data group Focus2Move.
