ZF presents intelligent, versatile mobility platform

ZF Friedrichshafen AG, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, has launched a cloud-based platform for innovative mobility services at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. The platform is both highly intelligent and very versatile. It accommodates a range of functions, from fleet management and ride-sharing to delivery services.

The platform fits into ZF’s ‘Vision Zero’, for a driverless mobility future with zero emissions and zero accidents, and builds on the assumption that not just individual vehicles will have to be intelligent, but also the integrated systems that operate them.

ZF’s cloud-based IoT solution is built on Microsoft Azure, which offers a wide range of security certificates as well as a multitude of intelligent algorithms. Among the first sample applications presented at CES are:

  • Fleet Management. By connecting ZF’s own telematics platform (Openmatics) to the cloud, the platform can be used to manage anything from conventional vehicle fleets to e-bike fleets and other micromobility solutions, and even wind farms.
  • Autonomous ride-sharing. Together with Berlin mobility startup door2door, ZF has developed a ride-sharing app for autonomous fleets in urban areas, enabling the optimal transport of both passengers and goods.
  • Over-the-air updates. By integrating eSync , designed by California networking specialist Excelforce, ZF’s platform ensures that over-the-air updates of electronic control units in fleet vehicles are performed in a swift and secure way.
