Greening of the Oil Giants - Dubai Taxi Fleet Goes Electric

Dubai's taxi fleet will be electric or hybrid by 2027

Dubai’s Road Transport Authority (RTA) has already succeeded in converting 50% of its taxi fleet to fully electric or hybrid and has, this week, made public plans to have 100% of its taxi fleet electric or hybrid by 2027.

Incentivising EV Adoption

Speaking to a local news organisation, the Authority’s CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Nassar BuShehab said that the RTA has already ratified incentives to support the adoption of EVs, such as exemptions from parking and road toll fees (SALIC), alongside free annual licensing for hybrid and electric vehicles.

The UAE has committed to the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce carbon emissions and Dubai is working in accordance with that. It’ll be interesting to see what the Emirates have planned for the post-oil era.
