Intel aims to reduce road accidents by improved AI

AI based collision avoidance technology will reduce accidents.

Intel and the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Hyderabad) joined forces to develop a visual-based technology to prevent road accidents.

By a tiny device attached to a camera, the AI will gain a driver's eye view and processes the data for predictive analysis to avoid accidents.

The project focuses on vehicle safety, mobility analysis and road infrastructure safety.

The pilot was launched in the Nagpur state of India and will be tested in other states. The technology is a part of the iRASTE (intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering) project and aims to reduce traffic accidents by at least 50%, creating a Vision Zero goal for India.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fleet will be equipped with collision avoidance technology to gather information from multiple sources and run mobility analysis. Entire road networks will be analysed through data gathering to identify accident-prone locations and to increase driver safety.

Under the project, a 9,000-kilometre road safety audit has already been completed.
