Tesla disabling “Full Self-driving” following NHTSA meetings

Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla is disabling its “Full Self-Driving” feature following discussions with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which feels that this could increase the risk of collisions.

The feature permits its vehicles to slowly (up to 5.6 mph) roll through intersections of 30 mph speed limits or less without coming to a complete stop when no other cars, bicycles or pedestrians are present. No accidents have been reported, the automaker told NHTSA.

Tesla has released an over-the-air software fix and according to a recall notice filed online, the automaker is going to send letters to owners.  The recall covers more than 53,000 units, being Model S and Model X (2016-22), Model 3 (2017-22), and Model Y (2020-22).
