Central America readies EV transition

Government officials in El Salvador are pushing to replace combustion engine cars with electric vehicles (EV), thanks to the Movilidad Elétrica (electric mobility) program which is now being adopted in various Central American countries.

El Salvador’s foreign relations ministry is implementing the plan in partnership with local electricity producer DELSUR and Nissan motors. Other countries working toward increasing their EV fleet and deploying recharging infrastructure under the multinational program are Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama, local news service La Prensa Grafica reported.

The plan has already been successful in Colombia where more than 20 recharging stations have been built to support its growing EV infrastructure.
