Third-party insurance now required on all Mexico vehicles

To drive on Mexican roads, it is now mandatory for all vehicles to have third-party vehicle insurance.

To ensure the care and protection of persons involved in a motor vehicle accident as well as property damage, third party coverage - known as "seguro de responsibilidad civil" - has progressively been implemented in the country since 2014.

It is now required for all vehicles, regardless of the type, to have this insurance, local automobile news portal Automovil Online reported.

Mexico is renowned for having low numbers of insured drivers. In 2018, only about 25% of the cars in the country were insured.
