Extra battery supplies for the Hyundai Kona Electric

To keep up with the rising demand for the Hyundai Kona Electric in the US, an EV with a range of over 250 miles, Hyundai has contracted a second battery supplier.

Initially, Hyundai would only be selling the Kona Electric in California, but there is a strong demand in other ZEV (zero emission vehicle) states - and even non-ZEV ones. Therefore, the South Korean OEM is adapting its sales an production plans. It has contracted a second, however unnamed, battery supplier to keep the batteries coming.

At the same time, the company is training its dealers in ZEV states and supporting the development of free fast chargers at their premises. In the non-ZEV states, where infrastructure will be less enhanced than in the ZEV states, the Kona Electric could be shipped only in case of a ‘sold order’.
