More petrols than diesels sold in H1

According to European carmakers’ association ACEA, petrol has gained the upper hand on diesel in the first six months of 2017, clearly indicating the fall of self-combusting engines. Petrol rose from 45.8 percent in H1 2016 to 48.5 percent in H1 2017, while diesel dropped from 50.2 to 46.3 percent.

The last year in which diesel was outsold by petrol in Europe was 2009. With some cities thinking of banning diesels and OEMs investing massively in hybrids and EVs, which are becoming ever more affordable, it is unlikely that the situation will be inverted again in the future.
