Uber Air partner raises $25m in series A round
Karem Aircraft, one of Uber Air’s partners for its upcoming flying taxi service, has raised $25 million in a series A round.
Karem’s development efforts are focused on electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles like the Butterfly air taxi vehicle.
The Butterfly is a quad tilt-rotor with four large rotors mounted on the wings and tail, combining the vertical lift capacity of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft.
Uber is aiming to start testing aircraft next year. Commercial deployment of Uber Air should start in Los Angeles (California), Dallas-Fort Worth/Frisco (Texas) and Melbourne (Australia) in 2023.
