Ride Sharing with Military Veterans in LA

A new ride sharing pilot is launched in downtown LA, thanks to a cooperation between FASTLinkDTLA, and Moovel.

The new ridesharing pilot, FlexLA, will complement LA’s public transit network. Therefore, the service will be available during the evenings, when public transit is less frequent. Moreover, the riders will be picked up and dropped off at designated virtual stops, or at Downtown DASH bus stops.

“DTLA needs the addition of this service, and more to follow, in order to meet the intense growth demands that make Downtown Los Angeles one of the fastest growing urban centers in the nation,” says Los Angeles City Council member José Huizar. “That growth is achievable if we help FASTLinkDTLA accomplish its goals to incentivize people to travel together by transit, micro-transit, biking and walking.”

To reach all, the application will be available in both Spanish and English, and after the pilot, discounted fares will be available for low-income citizens. Moreover, the shared rides will be provided by Mercedes-Benz Metris passenger vans and GLC hybrid vehicles driven by salaried U.S. military veterans.
