Ford, Toyota and Uber join mobility coalition

A new coalition to examine how autonomous-vehicle (AV) technology will transform the labour market in the United States has attracted the membership of Ford, Toyota and Lyft, among other major players in mobility innovation.

Launched earlier this week, the Partnership for Transportation Innovation and Opportunity (PTIO) will start conversations among its members on how America's workers will be impacted by advances in mobility technology, and how to solve existing and emerging issues in mobility, as the automotive industry moves ahead.

The PTIO also includes Daimler, Waymo, Uber, FedEx and the American Trucking Association, among others. Over the next half year, the coalition will consult with all stakeholders, in order to quantify the impact AVs and other new mobility technology will have on the labour force. The PTIO also aims to liaise with lawmakers and policy experts in Washington DC.
