Sacramento goes shared, electric and autonomous

The City of Sacramento together with company GIG Car Share will start providing shared electric cars which can be rent by the minute or by the hour.

The electric shared car service of GIG are ready to rent on the streets of Sacramento. The company took of with a fleet of 80 vehicles, which will be extended to 260 cars by the end of April.

The cars can be unlocked by a smartphone app for about 40 cents per minute. A day pass will cost about $85, including insurance, fuel, and parking.  As a result, the service should not only solve traffic congestion, but parking congestion as well.

In addition, Sacramento state is already testing autonomous vehicles as well, with the first AV shuttle already deployed in Sacramento. Sacramento is definitely willing to boost its autonomous and electric future, if we can believe Mayor Steinberg.
