Iran’s fleet maturity “is growing”

To provide a bit of context, we spoke to Mitra Ghaedi, International Sales Expert at Dolphin Apadana. Based in Isfahan, it’s one of Iran’s main suppliers of telematics services.
How would you rate the maturity of the fleet market in Iran?
“At present, fleet management in Iran is in the growth and establishment phase. Most major companies in Iran are working with technological features that allow them to track their vehicles and the idling time of those vehicles.”
“However, there is a subset of companies, many in the distributing sector, which use a much wider range of fleet management systems. This includes real-time tracking, registering of idling time and driver behaviour, and analysing on-board diagnostics (OBD) professionally.”
“Also, the Iranian food industry is working with on-board temperature sensors; and companies that use both heavy and light vehicles often employ load and tilt sensors.”
Which trends are impacting vehicle fleet management and vehicle financing in Iran?
“Trending currently are such applications as eCall – a system that alerts the relevant authorities and services in case of an accident or other emergency – and UBI, usage-based insurance.”
“Intelligent tracking systems are used for a variety of reasons in Iran, including the prevention and mitigation of vehicle theft, and for insurance purposes. An important application is the prevention of fuel trafficking, which is a major issue in Iran.”
How do you see fleet management in Iran evolve in 2020?
“Every year, the number of vehicles on the road increases by 15%. In the last month of 2019, fuel cost increased sharply, becoming three times more expensive. In light of those two factors, the first thing the government will require from fleet management companies in Iran in 2020 will be to better monitor the trafficking of fuel.”
“Also, some of Iran’s major automotive manufacturers, such as Mammut – a Scania brand – and Saipa are talking about connected car projects with a number of fleet management companies, including Dolphin Apadana – since we are one of the biggest GPS tracker manufacturers in Iran.”
