US auto import tax could impact 10 automakers in Mexico

A total of 10 automakers could be impacted by significant tariffs on new vehicles coming to the United States from Mexico, considering one of the latest claims of US President Donald Trump.

“Mexico understands that we’re going to close the border or I’m going to tariff the cars. I’ll do one or the other, and probably start off with the tariffs,” says the president, stating that the import tariff on these vehicles is set at 25%.

Among the OEMs in Mexico building cars specifically for the US market are Chrysler (including Ram), Ford, GM, Mazda, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Moreover, according to automobile news portal TFLcar, BMW and Kia have announced plans to open plants in the country in the near future.
