Dubai selects Cruise as self-driving ridehailing operator

Cruise, the autonomous vehicle subsidiary of GM, will launch its first robotaxi service outside of the United States in Dubai in 2023. The news was announced earlier this week by Hamdan bin Mohammed, the crown prince of Dubai.

The agreement between Cruise and GM is part of Dubai’s 2030 vision for more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.

Cruise is expected to use the Origin autonomous vehicles for its Dubai operations, first unveiled in 2019. Cruise will not use the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles which it is currently using in San Francisco as part of its test fleet.
