New payment options for commuters in Queensland

Cubic Transport Systems has won a deal to provide a new ticketing system for the Australian state of Queensland. The AU$371m-deal (€236m) includes contactless payment and real-time passenger information.

Under the new system, commuters will be able to use debit cards, mobile phones and other electronic devices like smart watches to pay for their travel on public transport.

“This payment solution will bring more convenience and freedom of choice for commuters. We’re delighted that proven technology already used across London, Chicago and Vancouver will be further enhanced for the benefit of Queensland commuters,” said Mark Bailey, Queensland's Minister for Transport and Main Roads.
