J.D. Power, Motorq team up to provide EV battery insight

Data analytics and consumer intelligence company J.D. Power and connected vehicle analytics and infrastructure company Motorq are jointly in active discussions with vehicle manufacturers to bring empirical electric vehicle (EV) battery health to the automotive industry through insights based on connected vehicle data.

Aimed at putting EV shoppers at ease when it comes to driving range and battery longevity concerns for used vehicles, the US-based multinationals are using data provided by vehicles - in close collaboration with automakers – to measure real-world EV battery health, J.D. Power said in a release.

As range can be affected by factors such as how the vehicle has been driven and charged, and the temperature where it is being operated, J.D. Power and Motorq will measure the precise state of health of each EV battery over time to help consumers make their own assessment.

Individual vehicles that achieve a pre-specified score will receive a J.D. Power validation, giving used EV shoppers greater confidence to know they are buying a high-quality vehicle at a fair price. The two companies have presence in North America, Europe, and Asia.
