LeasePlan and Otonomo announce connected vehicle partnership

LeasePlan USA has announced a strategic partnership with vehicle data specialist Otonomo to provide its fleet customers with insights into vehicle performance and driver behaviour without having to install aftermarket telematics devices.

The Otonomo platform ingests more than 4 billion data points per day globally from over 40 million vehicles via OEM-embedded sensors and modems. LeasePlan’s OneConnect telematics platform will mine this data to give fleet clients immediate insight into their drivers’ behaviour, fuel costs, maintenance trends and expenses across a wider range of vehicles.

Ben Volkow, CEO and Co-Founder of Otonomo, said: “Otonomo will give LeasePlan’s customers the power to enhance the safety, efficiency, and compliance of their fleets through their existing telematics platform, OneConnect.”

OneConnect helps fleet managers to identify vehicles for maintenance, introduce predictive maintenance policies, track vehicle locations, manage fuel usage, monitor driving habits to enhance safety, and meet compliance requirements. The telematics solution is fully integrated within LeasePlan’s fleet management system.

Felipe Smolka, LeasePlan’s EVP Transformation, said the new partnership: “reinforces LeasePlan’s pole position in the connected vehicle space,” and would “grow our network of direct-vehicle connectivity to include Toyota, GM, Ford, FCA, and many other automakers.”
