UAE to electrify 'the Falcon Rise' with Swedish Einride

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ramped its national electrification effort by partnering with Swedish Enride to electrify the Falcon Rise grid by deploying electric trucks and charging infrastructure. 

The last host of the COP 28 Conference, UAE, is revealing its ambition towards the 2050 Net-zero emission with strategic partnerships, including the deal with freight mobility company Einrin, which provides connected and autonomous vehicle (AV) technologies. 

Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in May 2030, Einride and Abu Dhabi will commence a vast project to electrify the road freight transport throughout the Abu Dhabi region. The Falcon Rise Grid comprises half of the project, which stretches 550 km across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. 

The project, which will be conducted in collaboration with the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), is expected to last five years. The planned freight ecosystem includes 1,000 heavy-duty trucks, 200 autonomous trucks, and eight charging points with over 500 charging points, representing Einride's full freight mobility offering. 

The other part of the regional electrification consists of electrifying freight transport across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, which includes 1,000 electric heavy-duty trucks, 100 AVs, and charging stations. 

Electrification of road transport is crucial for UAE to reach the 2050 Net-zero goal, as the Department of Municipalities and Transport aims to reduce road freight transport emissions by 30% by 2030. 

Along with strategic partnerships with foreign companies, the UAE boosted domestic efforts to electrify road transport nationwide. The Supreme Council of Energy of Dubai recently announced that the city has 50,000 EVs and 500 charging points.
