Zeroing in on North American Transport Management solutions
If you are a fleet and facilities manager seeking to optimize supply chain and logistics operations, you must use the most efficient transport management system (TMS) in the market today, a multi-billion-dollar industry which is expected to see 10.6% CAGR from 2022-2027 in North America.
The TMS market in North America is expected to be at least 2.3 billion euros (US$2.51bn) in the year 2027, according to IoT market research provider Berg Insight.
By using the right TMS software, you leverage powerful automation and analytics that optimize speed, reduce spending, and improve overall planning and monitoring of goods, helping warehouse, supply chain, and fleet operators with dispatching, predictive tracking analytics, inventory control, shipment volume forecasting, and order management.
And with the cloud-based solutions of today, according to Berg Insight, you can accomplish scalable alternatives that can satisfy the business needs for companies of any size or type.
For fleet managers of transport services, remember that your fleet sits in the middle of the supply chain so pay attention to what fleet data you are producing and make sure it has value to the overall supply chain and logistics teams.
As TMS providers utilize telematics information such as vehicle GPS location and driver Hours of Service information, TMS services from providers such as MercuryGate, TMC (a division of C.H. Robinson), Oracle, and SAP are sometimes offered through partnerships with telematics companies such as Geotab, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Omnitracs, and Trimble.
Solution vendors range from small specialised TMS developers active in local markets to the major enterprise software providers with a worldwide presence. “The most notable players on the North American TMS market are Trimble Transportation and McLeod Software,” says Berg Insight Principal Analyst Rickard Andersson (pictured left).
“Trimble is a major industrial technology company which offers a suite of TMS solutions following multiple acquisitions, while McLeod has focused specifically on serving the trucking industry for over 35 years”, the analyst said in a release.
Global Players
Those offering their transportation management solutions on a global scale are major players such as US-based cloud infrastructure and software provider Oracle and Germany-based enterprise application software giant SAP.
Meanwhile, one of the most notable events in the last year, according to Mr. Andersson, is Trimble’s acquisition of Transporeon. “It combines two companies with leading positions in North America and Europe respectively, thus giving the combined business a virtually global footprint”, said Mr. Andersson.
