Apple scraps 200 jobs from autonomous driving division

Already in 2016, there were signs that Apple had difficulty with its Project Titan autonomous driving division. Originally planning to launch its own car, Apple scaled back its ambitions to a mere self-driving platform in 2017. Earlier this week, the company reported it is laying off 200 people from the project.

Nevertheless, Apple is not giving up on the project. In an interview with Bloomberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook (pictured) said it is a core technology that they view as very important, adding it is the mother of all AI projects. “It’s probably one of the more difficult AI projects to work on,” he said.

In line with Apple’s product communication policy, Mr Cook declined to comment on timelines or launch dates.
