Peru's Top 10 most fuel efficient cars

Peru's economy is on the rise. However, fleet managers still need to pay attention to cutting costs to improve their bottom line so here are the Top 10 most fuel efficient cars in the country.

Ranked No. 1 is the Toyota Prius Hybrid which, through the support of a 1.7-liter gasoline engine, generates 99hp and gets 82km/gl.  Its US$29,290 price tag, however, is more than double most of the cars on this list.

Mazda 2, with its Skyactive technology, is the runner up with its 1.5-liter engine which boasts 75km/gl.  It, along with the third place contender, generates the most power in the Top 10 with 106hp. It is priced at US$14,990.

Trailing not far behind is the Nissan Tiida which has a 1.6-liter 106hp engine which gets 70km/gl. It is slightly cheaper at US$12,990

Japan makes the list once again at No. 4 with the Suzuki Alto. It is equipped with a 796cc 12-valve three cylinder engine which generates 47hp and gets 70km/gl. Although it has the lowest power output in the Top 10, it is also the least expensive, coming in at approximately US$6,990.

Representing Italy is the Fiat 500 with its 1.2-liter engine which puts out 69hp and get 68.5km/gl. It costs about US$15,990.

The Chevrolet Spark GT is ranked No. 6 with its 1.2-liter 81hp engine achieving 67km/gl. It is the second least expensive car at US$8,990.

Hyundai's i10 followed with its 1.2-liter engine with CVVT technology to help optimize fuel economy to 65km/gl. With its 85.8hp motor, the South Korean contender cost approximately US$9,990.

As the only manufacturer with two cars on its list, Toyota returns at No. 8 with the Yaris. It has a 1.3l motor with 87hp and it is able to reach 65km/gl. With a price tag of US$12,950, it was Peru's most sold vehicle in 2016. A total of 8,240 were sold last year.

The Volkswagen Polo, which has a 1.4l engine putting out 85hp and getting 64.8km/gl, was just behind at No. 9. It is priced at US$14,890.

Spain achieved the No. 10 spot with its Seat Ibiza.  It has a 1.4-liter 16-valve engine generating 85hp and is able to get 61km/gl. Although its US$16,990 sticker price is only moderately higher than many of its competitors, it is the second most expensive automobile on our Top 10 list.

This year, Peru is expected to see a GDP increase of some 3% year-over-year so sales will likely follow suit. Although spending does stimulate economies, smart management such as making the correct decisions in your fleet management is what will help maintain corporate health over the long term.
