Tesla wins International Fleet Industry Award for Autopilot

Celebrating the role of suppliers in enhancing fleet management, the International Fleet Industry Award is designed to highlight innovative tools, products or services offered by international fleet suppliers. Out of an initial selection of 10 nominees, the Californian EV pioneer Tesla stood out the most, convincing the jury of the utility and benefits of their automated driving feature Autopilot.

Representing the company were Davide Ghione and Hamish Phillips, Enterprise Sales department at Tesla, who received the award from Ciprian Suta, European Corporate Sales and Leasing Director at Opel Automobile GmbH. Runner-up in this category, and equally worthy of an accolade, was Arval, with Integral Fleet, a tool developed to simplify the reporting task for fleet managers and provide greater data standardisation and transparency across their markets and partners. The award was collected by Bart Beckers, CCO at Arval.

Autopilot: level 2 now, level 4 one day

Tesla Autopilot is an increasingly capable suite of safety and convenience features that personal transportation safer and more enjoyable. Since September 2014, Autopilot hardware has come standard in all Tesla vehicles, and Tesla has continued to refine and enhance the Autopilot system via over-the-air software updates. Data shows that, when used properly, drivers supported by Autopilot are safer than those operating without assistance.

In its current form, Autopilot is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that classifies as a Level 2 automated system by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is designed as a hands-on experience to give drivers more confidence behind the wheel, increase their safety on the road, and make highway driving more enjoyable by reducing the driver’s workload.

As Autopilot technology continues to be developed, more advanced functionality will be made available to Tesla owners over time nearing full self-driving capabilities.
